
The Forgotten History of 1960’s Asian American Radicals
In “The Forgotten Zine of 1960’s Asian American Radicals,” Jaeah J. Lee, sheds light on the radical history of the 1960’s Asian American activists who founded the zine, Gidra. First released in 1969, “[Gidra’s] pages burst with stories, poems, cartoons, photos, and illustrations, alongside reports on local activism and historical accounts of racism and abuse in the Asian immigrant experience.” The article documents the history of the zine and it’s founders, and includes images of Gidra’s covers throughout the years. Lee also highlights testimonies from Asian American activists who found solace, pride, and inspiration from the pages of zine.
