Hyphen Magazine
A founder of the Visibility Project, Mia Nakano, is also the founding Photo-Editor of Hyphen Magazine. Her intentions for both projects are encapsulated in the “history” section of Hyphen’s website that states, “When we started Hyphen, we didn’t know that we would create such a far-reaching community. When we first gathered around that kitchen table, it was simply because we were driven by a hunger for a more complex representation of Asian America. And when none presented itself, we decided to do it ourselves.”
MISSION
The Visibility Project uplifts stories and images of the national queer Asian Pacific American women and transgender community. We seek to change the narrative of our present and past by sharing our histories.
