wanna participate

Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to look at the site, and see what this project is all about.  I’m perpetually seeking participants who are willing to be photographed and interviewed.  If there is enough interested folks in a city, and I have the financial means to travel (see below) I’ll definitely come through.  Any confirmed shoot dates and new cities will be posted on this page.  Sign-up for the email list for any news and events.

In exchange for the time spent contributing to this project, participants are free to use the images for non-commercial use, and are encouraged to submit bios & links to the expanding website to promote personal work or social justice related causes.

Please contact mia (at) visibilityproject (dot) org if you or anyone you know is interested in participating, or fill out the comment section below.

SPONSOR, FUNDRAISE, OR DONATE (aka help the Visibility Project come to your city)

Here’s an addendum, and request for help. I’ve gotten lot of requests to come to cities all over the country.  This is incredibly inspiring to continue work on this project.  I have a full-time job, and freelance on the side to help pay for equipment, travel, and print/exhibition expenses.  But I still don’t have the financial means to do as much as I or you would like.  So I’m asking for help.  Some thoughts I’ve had is to have non-profit, school, or community organization sponsor a visit.  Or hold a fundraiser to support/donate to the project.

thanks so much for your interest and continued support of our community – Mia Nakano

    Hello,

I'm a queer fat high femme biracial Asian bon vivant social justice crusader who would love to participate in your project! What information do you need from me?

Also, if you're interested in group shots, I also have a couple of friends (a Chinese femme and a biracial South Asian FTM) who might also be interested in coming with me.

    Thanks!

    Tara

    Hi Mia,

I found your website through a queer email list-serve I'm a part of.

My name is Un Jung Lim and I'm from New York. I identify as a Queer Korean American Power Femme and I'm interested in being photographed. Unfortunately I'll be traveling the exact week you'll be in Brooklyn/NYC. I'm traveling from December 26th to January 2nd to visit San Francisco for the first time. How long will you be in the New York City area? Would you consider some additional photo shoot dates?

I've also posted your request for QAPI models on the Q-Wave list-serve. If you're interested in what Q-Wave does, you can go to our website: http://www.q-wave.org/

I'm also a part of The Dari Project which aims to create resources and visibility for Queer Korean/Korean Americans. http://www.dariproject.org/

If you're interested in contacting me, I can be reached at: unjung_8@yahoo.com or at 347-878-9450.

Thanks for starting this visibility project. I look forward to hearing from you.

    in peace & solidarity,

    Un Jung

    ahoy!

i wanted to let y'all know that i truly appreciate this project and am very excited for it. i'm a queer asian-american womyn who is currently living in DC – moved to the east coast from vegas this year. gettin' my MA in gender studies and public policy. and with a background in activism and outreach: mostly feminist, lgbtq, immigration, the arts, and burlesque. i'm on the board of NAPAWF (Nat'l Asian Pacific American Women's Forum) as their LGBT co-Chair and also the national board of Burlesque Hall of Fame.

anyhow – i'd love to participate in the project – though i'm out of town through the 3rd of January. SO. in the case y'all need more people past your shooting dates, please feel free to contact me. i've got close friends in ny i visit often and really, any excuse to head up is good for me.

I read about your project on a listserv I'm on, Q-Wave, for Asian and Asian-American queer women/trans/genderqueer, etc.

I'm a transman, 39 years-old, of mixed Chinese-Ecuadorian descent and background. I'm bilingual Spanish and English, but no Chinese (my grandmother speaks Cantonese). I left Ecuador at 17, and moved to Southern California to attend college. Moved to NY and got a M.A. at the New School. Filmmaker and artist by training and occupation. I work on social-issue documentaries, and hope to expand to narrative fiction as well.
